Texas Attorneys for Victims of Sex abuse in Camps

Residential day camp and
summer camp operators are required to provide a safe
environment, free from sexual injury, for your child.
The law mandates that operators of these facilities exercise reasonable care in properly screening, training and supervising employees and volunteers. Often former campers, now adults, are hired or volunteer, as “camp counselors” without the necessary training to prevent sexual abuse of children in their charge. They need this training because sexual predators, often volunteers themselves, seek camp positions to gain access to children.
Failure to provide crucial prevention and safety
protocol has allowed camp employees, volunteers, and
sometime other campers to sexually abuse children
rendered especially vulnerable by age and
circumstance. If your child has been hurt at a camp,
please contact the police immediately. Other
children may be at continuing risk.
